But there is another side of Kanazawa in autumn.
Away from the city's most famous sights, you can find quiet temples, historic gardens, wooded hills, and peaceful walking paths filled with autumn colors.
Here are six of our favorite places to enjoy autumn foliage in Kanazawa—some well known locally, but easy for visitors to miss.
When Is the Best Time for Kanazawa Autumn Foliage?
The autumn foliage season in Kanazawa usually runs from late October through late November.
The timing varies each year depending on the weather and location. Hills and higher areas tend to change color earlier, while many gardens in central Kanazawa are at their best in November.
If autumn foliage is one of the highlights of your trip, early to mid-November is generally a good time to visit.
1. Utatsuyama Park

Just east of the city center, Utatsuyama Park offers a quieter experience among the trees.
The hills become colorful in autumn, and several viewpoints offer views across Kanazawa and the surrounding mountains.

2. Terashima Kurando Samurai Residence
